Luka Modric has moved to distance himself from speculation suggesting he is a target for Manchester United.

Reports had suggested that Red Devils chief Sir Alex Ferguson was weighing up the merits of a move for Tottenham's diminutive playmaker.

However, the Croatia international claims he has no knowledge of any such interest and insists he is happy to remain at White hart Lanefor the foreseeable future.

"I don't know anything about the manchester United Link"

"I read about it in the newspapers, and one paper even published quotes from me saying I was happy to be on Sir Alex Ferguson's radar.

"But the truth is that I didn't say anything to anybody about this. They were not my words.

"I feel great at Tottenham and I have given no thought to moving to a different club. My contract runs until 2013 and I am just thinking about staying.

Northern Ireland and Manchester United star Jonny Evans has told how he is “more wary of people” after being falsely accused of rape.

The 21-year-old Belfast lad said he was forced to grow up fast after being arrested and held in police cells when a 26-year-old woman claimed she had been |seriously sexually assaulted at an exclusive party at a Manchester city hotel in December 2007.

The rape allegations were made after a 13-hour party for the entire Manchester United squad and other guests, which included Christmas lunch and burlesque dancers at a casino, and drinks at a bar owned by a soap opera star.

Jonny, who was 19-years-old at the time, voluntarily presented himself to police investigating the allegation. He was arrested and released on bail. But soon after the case was dropped when the Crown Prosecution Service found insufficient evidence to substantiate the rape claim.

Speaking candidly to our sister paper Sunday Life, Jonny revealed: “It has made me a lot more wary of people.

“I think it’s made me grow up and made me realise how much people can get sucked into things.”

Sir Alex Ferguson says Manchester United will cope without Cristiano Ronaldo this season.

Ronaldo was the jewel in United's crown as they wrapped up three consecutive Premier League titles and conquered Europe as well.

But he flew the nest for Real Madrid earlier this summer in a world-record £80million deal.

United have not spent big in a bid to replace his goals and creative talents, but Ferguson insists they'll still be a force to be reckoned with.

Talking after Sunday's Premier League win over Birmingham, he said: "I know some of our supporters are still worried that I have not bought a megastar to replace Cristiano.

"They are concerned because they can't quite work out how we are going to compensate for all the goals Cristiano used to get for us.

"But I am more than happy with our squad and although we have lost a major player, I believe we are on the threshold of a very exciting era for Manchester United."

Ferguson saw Wayne Rooney net the winner against Birmingham, and expects the England striker to provide plenty more goals in the coming months.

"If you have two or three strikers who can get you 20 it stands you in good stead." said Ferguson.

"Wayne Rooney is well capable of that."

United new boy Michael Owen made his Premier League debut for the club as a late substitute, and missed a golden opportunity to crown it with a goal.

"Owen made a great run and the keeper made a great save. But he will get his goals, no question about that," said Ferguson.

"I started with Rooney and Berbatov today quite simply because they were at the club last season and were regular players and you've got to give them an opportunity.

"Michael will get his chances. There is no question about that. There are plenty of games coming up in the next few weeks to give him his opportunity and he will take them."
